Urban Landscape Research

In my studies of Urban Landscape Photography, I have found a photographer called Bradford Kissell. I will be focusing my studies on him.

In this image we see how the photographer has used the vibrant red colour to set off the blue background of the sky. He has also used the lighting from the sun to give a unique pattern from the shadow of the grating. Using the rule of thirds you can see the majority of the poles have been placed on the line between the top and middle left areas.

I like this photo because it uses bright colours to grab your attention. Also how the shadow has been used.

In this photo Bradford has used the natural colours of the metal to give a cold dark feeling. He also uses the lines from the steps and the strange angle to disorientate the viewer. Using the rule of thirds you can see that the entire left hand side of the image has been used, with the closest step being placed there.

I like this image because of how the photography has used the angles to disorientate the viewer

And finally after analyzing Bradfords photography I took some photos that I consider Urban Photography I have also thought about doing some close up urban shots of bolts and streets.

Rule of Thirds

The Rule of Thirds is all about the positioning within your shot. Most cameras give you a grid so you can tell where to place things but as photographer become more experienced the rule of thirds comes as second nature to them. An example of where I have used the rule of thirds is in the images below.

For both of these pictures I have used the Rule of Thirds, as you can see I have used the far sections and the center of the grid to place the object of focus.
