Shutter speed effects the time to shutter remains open, this means there is more exposure time, which allows more light to reach the image sensor. Below are some examples of different Shutter Speed from 1/30 to 10"
A good use for slow shutter speeds is to get the light trail effect. When using a slow shutter speed you also have to use the apeture to make sure that there is a balanceto make the image visable. Below is a image of my attempt of light trials on a low shutter speed.
