Image Analysis

This image shows why I like using natural shots. It show the relationship between the two subject and yet does not need the boundaries of a studio. I also like the use of depth of field, this image shows the subjects and the wheat in front of them but the brick wall that is behind becomes blurry making your focus on the subject. This could be achieved by increasing the aperture to f3.5 to give a shorter focal distance.

For the lighting I think that a reflective panel is used to sent back some of the sunlight to light the subject. Finally the use of the monochrome effect gives the image a portrait effect this maybe because of how old black and white portraits used to be. If I was going to create this image again I would properly use the in camera monochrome setting instead of applying this later, this would allow me to see the final image before any editing process on a computer.

About Me & My Camera

My name is Joel and I am currently studying Photography. I am using a Canon DSLR camera to take my all my images which are be found on this blog. I have enjoyed taking photos for a long time and now plan to extend my knowledge of photography. Recently I have begun to focus on specific areas of photography instead of taking images as they come. These areas include Nature and Natural Portraits.

The camera I have used to take the majority of my images is the Canon EOS 1000D, although this is not a top Canon model I have found it has all the features I currently need to use such as adjustable: Shutter Speed, Light settings, Aperture, ISO and in camera edits such as Monochrome. I have to lenses that I use with the camera a stock 18-55mm lens and a Sigma 75-300mm lens with a macro setting so I can get up close with my nature shots. Finally the 1000d has 10 mega pixels with allows me to enlarge my images for mounting and showing without any pixilation.

Must Be Summer

During a period of nice weather I went to different areas to take some image. The first four images where taken at the local cricket club. I particularly like the last the four images as it shows the effort that he has been through and gives you an idea of what they are doing as of the grass and the custom.

Movement Photography

When I first looked at movement photography I thought the only way I could show this is by using a slow shutter speed. But after a while I realized that I could also use freeze frame photos to show the movement as well. I have
taken a couple of sample shots which use the techniques, these type of images are uaslly used for adverts such as the Joop Jump ad

Macro Photography

Firstly what is Macro Photography, well when you take an image with a macro lens you get a closer shot and a very small depth of field. Macro shots are usually taken for nature images to show every detail. I have found 2 images that I like and I am going to analyse them to see what’s good about them.

I like this image because of its sheer simplicity. Instead of using a 18-55 mm lens the photography has taken this picture with a Macro Lens. This allows the viewer to see closer into the nib of the pen than they would of ever seen before. I also like the way the photographer has used a white background which we can see is actually square paper. This gives the impression that some one has just left the pen were it lies giving the image a more natural feel to it.

I like this image as it uses the natural bright colours of the flower to make it stand out. it also shows all the

different textures and details of all the parts of the flower. Personally I feel that the image could show more of the flower and not just small sections of it. but if that was to happen then the details that have been gained from shooting it with a macro lens would be lost.

And finally just by looking at the image it looks like the image has been cropped. This may because the photographer thinks that this is the best part of the image.

The next two images are some of my images which I think could be classed as a Macro images, to take them I used my 75-300mm lens.

Portrait Photography

We were set the task of creating some portraits, and after a couple of shots within the studio I felt that I preferred the more natural looking image. I also found that using the monochrome settings on the cameras can give a really good effect to the portrait. Below you can see some of the images I have taken. In each image I have tried to keep the backgrounds out of focus so all the attention is drawn to the subject. Also I have tried to capture a nature smiles and people at work. I find nature shots much better than a posed shot.

Textures

We were sent out to get some images of textures so my partner and I tried to focus on man made materials we also looked at old and new items. But after I had taken the images I then starting taking images more suited to nature. After thinking about what we were going to do, we got outside and found it was easier as there are textures every where and we could get the image we needed. I used one of the college's Fuji film cameras but the other other i have used my Canon.

After talking the texture image I have though about the things the pictures can be used for. Firstly I have thought about just different images of texture and how they could be classed as art, but then I considered how the textures could be incorporated into one large project, such as creating a montage.
